5.4.1. Course Remediation

Didactic course remediations will be conducted by the course coordinator and the process will be outlined to the student. At the end of the remediation process, retesting of the clinical medicine material will occur utilizing a CAT, testing the same content but not the same questions. Course remediations will have a completion deadline of 6 weeks from the end of the original course and must be completed prior to the start of the next semester. Students will not be permitted to progress to the next semester with any incomplete courses. Failure of a course remediation will result in referral to the Student Development Committee for Program dismissal. Successfully passing the didactic course remediation will reflect on their student transcript as a passing grade of 77% but will still be considered a course failure according to section 5.4.

Clinical year course remediations will be coordinated by the Director of Clinical Education. For students with an EOR failure, the remediation process will include retesting the same content, but not containing the same questions. EOR remediations will have a completion deadline of 6 weeks from the end of the original clerkship and must be completed prior to the start of the next semester. Students will not be permitted to progress to the next semester with any incomplete courses. The student must score 67% on the retest to successfully pass the course. Successfully passing the EOR retest will reflect on the student transcript as a passing grade but will still be considered a course failure according to section 5.4. For students with an unsatisfactory preceptor evaluation, the remediation process may include repeating an on-site clinical clerkship and result in a delay in Program completion.
