Introduction

Each student creates and updates their Student Profile for Fieldwork Experience form that includes content related to on-going assessment of their progress and goals in developing the professional behaviors, knowledge, and skills needed for fieldwork practice. Students will be administratively enrolled in the D2L OT FW page and E*Value software systems for clinical education.

The criteria and process for selecting fieldwork sites and collaborating about the learning objectives is communicated to students prior to the start of the fieldwork experience.

  • For Level I Fieldwork courses, there is a mandatory pre-placement orientation each semester to ensure that students are informed of site requirements and learning objectives before starting the experience.
  • For Level II Fieldwork, OT 760 Fieldwork Seminar focuses on requirements and preparation for participation in Level II Fieldwork.

Ultimately, the AFWC or CEPSA make all fieldwork education assignments. Factors will include site availability, current and prior academic and fieldwork performance, and characteristics of the learning environment at the fieldwork site. Students may not decline a fieldwork placement; such action will be considered refusal to take a required course.

The Program cannot guarantee placements at specific facilities or geographic locations during specific time frames. Fieldwork placements are subject to site availability at locations that have contracts with the Program, and in accordance with State Laws and Regulations. The availability of any particular fieldwork facility varies from semester to semester.

Students are advised that not all facilities are available for all fieldwork education experiences. Availability is based on resource constraints of the fieldwork sites and on the fieldwork program’s decisions regarding appropriateness of the facility to specific fieldwork experiences in the curriculum and/or to a specific student’s learning needs.
